20-Minute Meditation for Awakening
Welcome to this 20 minute awakening meditation. Take a few deep breaths, and allow your body to relax as you settle into the present moment. Focus on your breath and be aware of each inhalation and exhalation.
As your breath becomes slower and smoother, direct your attention to the sounds around you. Notice any sounds that may be near or far away, inside or outside of the room. Become aware of the texture and character of each sound – its rhythm, pitch, volume and tone. Allow yourself to become deeply immersed in listening as if you are hearing these sounds for the first time in your life.
Now focus your attention on the present moment itself – what is happening within you? Become aware of any sensations that may be occurring such as pressure or tightness in any part of your body. Be open to noticing any thoughts or emotions that may arise. Let go of any need to analyze or fix anything; observe with curiosity and non-judgmental awareness.
Now move on to become aware of what is happening outside yourself – notice how the air feels against your skin; how the ground beneath you feels solid yet still alive with energy; take note of any smells or tactile sensations such as a breeze brushing against your face. Become immersed in these details that make up this moment right now – feel the full range of sensations, without getting lost in them or attaching meaning to them. Just simply notice, accept and appreciate all that is here now in this moment – even what might seem mundane can be appreciated when we approach it with openness and curiosity.
As you continue to rest here in this gentle presence, bring awareness back inside yourself- notice how all these parts come together creating one connected experience- it is ok if some parts seem difficult or uncomfortable at times but try not to judge those experiences too harshly- simply acknowledge them for what they are without taking away from their value.
With each breath visualize radiant light entering into each cell of your body easing away tension and stress and filling you with peace, contentment, joy and self-love until every part feels completely nourished by this light energy radiating through you from head to toe . Feel free now to take whatever time necessary before slowly opening up your eyes again – ready to start this day anew!
